Beach Soccer World Cup draw held in the Bahamas

NASSAU, Bahamas -- The Official Draw for the 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup was held Tuesday at the Hotel Atlantis, with the host Bahamas discovering it will play Switzerland in the opening match of the competition on April 27.

The draw ceremony was held in the special presence of the Rt. Hon. Perry Gladstone Christie, Prime Minister Commonwealth of The Bahamas. Assisting were FIFA Legend Emerson, former midfielder for Brazil’s national football team and the Miss Bahamas Universe 2016 Cherell Williamson.  CONCACAF General Secretary Philippe Moggio was also in attendance.

In addition to facing the Swiss, the Bahamas will also meet Ecuador and Senegal in Group A.

CONCACAF champion Panama was drawn into Group C with Paraguay, Portugal and a yet-to-be-determined Asian side, while Mexico was joined by Nigeria, Italy and another Asian squad in Group B.

The final will be played on May 7.
