U.S., Mexico win, will meet to decide Visit Puerto Vallarta Cup champion

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico – Tournament host Mexico and the United States remained perfect after two games each in the Visit Puerto Vallarta Cup 2017 thanks to wins over France and Colombia, respectively, on Saturday at the Estadio Municipal Agustin Flores Contreras. The CONCACAF duo will meet Sunday in an encounter that will decide the champion.

USA 4, Colombia 2
David Mondragon scored two goals and the United States earned a 4-2 win over Colombia. The Americans took an early 1-0 lead through Lucas Roque – his third goal of the competition -- and never looked back. Nicolas Perera’s tournament-best fourth goal put the U.S. ahead 3-1. Omar Ortega netted a brace for the Colombians.

Mexico 4, France 3
Jose Ramon Maldonado scored the game’s first and last goals as Mexico defeated former world champion France, 4-3. The Mexicans never trailed, but two of Victor Angeletti’s three goals equalized twice for France (2-2, 3-3). Matters were settled with less than two minutes remaining, when Maldonado struck for the game-winner. Mexico’s Erik Samano netted twice.
