(Photo: Mexsport) QUERETARO, Mexico – Club America’s Oribe Peralta knows a thing or two about winning titles. The 33-year-old forward is a three-time Liga MX champion (Santos: 2008 Clausura, 2012 Clausura; Club America: 2014 Apertura) and a two-time Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League winner (Club America: 2014/15, 2015/16). With the second half of the 2017/18 season slightly more than two weeks away, Peralta is thinking about how his Aguilas can lift a few more trophies. “We are working on being more effective up front and solid in the back,” Peralta said Thursday at the club’s preseason camp in Queretaro. “We cannot give away anything during the season. We have to start well and finish in the same way. America always has to be champion. It’s always what’s asked of you.” Aiding in the effort to claim the 2018 Clausura and the 2018 SCCL crowns has been the arrival of three new players: forward Henry Martin, midfielder Joe Corona and defender Emanuel Aguilera. In addition to creating depth, each member of the trio brings distinct attacking qualities that should help a side that went goalless in its last four matches. “It is a good test for them, trying to catch the eye of (head coach) Miguel (Hererra),” finished Peralta. “They are working on going in strong [into the season]. They are all in with us.” Club America opens the 2018 on January 7 at Queretaro.
